How To Show File Extensions in macOS Finder
1.) Open a new Finder window on your Mac Desktop, or just click in an empty area on your Mac’s Desktop.
I wonder if it is possible to write extensions for the current macOS Finder app. I'd like to have an extension that features a text terminal subwindow running a shell session below the directory contents of a Finder window. Any ideas if this is possible at all (in a 'legal' way)? I do know of the Finder Sync extension type as well as those. In OS X, the Finder Sync extension point lets you cleanly and safely modify the Finder’s user interface to express file synchronization status and control. Unlike most extension points, Finder Sync does not add features to a host app. Instead, it lets you modify the behavior of the Finder itself. Finder Sync Extensions.
2.) In the Menu Bar, which should be Labeled “Finder,” click on “Finder” and then click on “Preferences” in the pull-down menu.
3.) In the Finder Preferences window that appears, click on the “Advanced” tab.

4.) Click the checkbox that says “Show all filename extensions” to select it. (If you decide to hide the file extensions, you can come back here and click the box to unselect it.)
